In recent months, South Korea has done a great job of combating COVID-19, with fewer cases than other countries around the world. South Korea’s tourism industry is also thriving. When it comes to exploring and travel safe in South Korea during COVID-19 without taking public transit, there are many options.

COVID-19 restrictions in South Korea have been extended until at least October 3 due to continued transmission. The vast majority of the country is still under Level-3, the second-highest level of regulation. Seoul will be under the highest level restrictions, Level-4 ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday later in the month. Private gatherings are limited to four persons by the government, whereas events and assemblies are allowed to have up to 50 people. Except on public transit, indoor public places, and big gatherings, people with at least one immunization are not required to wear a facemask in most country regions.

Nightclubs and pubs, as well as sporting events, remain closed to the public. Regardless of immunization status, facemasks are required in Level-4 regions. Facemasks may be fined up to KRW 100,000 if they are not used or are worn inappropriately.

Important Information for Visitors to South Korea

Before flying to South Korea, make sure you are adequately immunized. Unvaccinated visitors at a higher risk of severe disease from COVID-19 should avoid traveling to South Korea unless necessary. Consult your doctor if you must travel and have concerns. In South Korea, travelers should adhere to suggestions or rules such as wearing a mask and keeping a distance of 6 feet from others.

Limitations on Travel

Inbound passengers must show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of departure; exceptions may be made for minors under the age of six and South Korean nationals for humanitarian grounds. At the points of entrance, all visitors must pass through the required screenings. Inbound travelers who plan to stay in Seoul must submit to COVID-19 testing upon arrival; tourists must wait for the results before continuing their journey.Quarantine is required for most other international visitors. Most other international arrivals must quarantine for 14 days at their own expense in specified facilities.
