Check out the ten best restaurants in Seoul’s university area, Sinchon, for some authentic Korean and global cuisine experiences at an affordable cost!

The Sinchon neighborhood of Seoul is undoubtedly a foodie’s paradise. They not only have a broad selection of food outlets, but the costs are also comparatively low because it is a university area. Unfortunately, it is not a particularly popular destination for visitors to Seoul.

All the restaurants on this list are very close to the universities in the area.

Seowang Mandu

Authentic Chinese dumplings are challenging to get in Seoul, despite their proximity to the Middle Kingdom. Seowang Mandu, on the other hand, offers a taste of the real thing at a reasonable price.

Though the xiaolongbao here has a thick exterior, the rich juice and delicious, tender pork inside more than make up for it. Each dumpling is filled to the capacity with delectable filling, and a plate of these could easily suffice as dinner.

Standby Kitchen

Standby Kitchen is a modest sandwich shop at the back gates of Idae. The business has a small storefront, and all of the seating is in the restaurant’s basement. They specialize in sandwiches, although they also serve fries and salad.

All their sandwiches are delicious, but the amounts are far too small for the price. You may need at least two meals to be satisfied, making the restaurant a bit pricey. Having said that, the ingredients are fresh, and the sandwiches are delicious.

Gosami

In Sinchon, Gosami is one of the best restaurants to have grilled fish at a reasonable price. Because of its low pricing, Gosami is a popular dining option among students. When you dine here, it will cost you an average of just 5,000 KRW every meal. The food is really excellent.

The restaurant isn’t fancy, but for the price and taste, it’s worth a try! The grilled mackerel costs roughly 7,500 – 8,500 KRW and serves 2-3 people.

Jyoti Indian Restaurant

Jyoti Indian Restaurant is one of the best authentic Indian/Nepalese restaurants in Sinchon, with excellent ambiance and service. Unlike other fusion Indian restaurants in Seoul, Jyoti serves vegetarian/non-vegetarian/halal cuisine to all Indian food aficionados.

Because each meal preparation is fresh for each order, it takes around 30 minutes for serving the delicious food.

Yeonnam Seo Sikdang

This is the original galbi restaurant, which has been standing for 60 years. Just do not mix it up with all the other copycats since it’s Yeonnam Seo Sikdang that serves the best BBQ.

Because the restaurant exclusively serves meat, you need to bring your own rice and kimchi or purchase it at a local convenience store. Before serving, the marinated beef should only be lightly charred on the grill.

Sodojeog

In Sinchon, this is a favorite spot for some meat and alcohol. Their “B Set” (which costs 37,000 Won) contains 350 gms of meat in total. The seats are a little cramped, so expect it to be a little uncomfortable at peak hours (There is usually a little queue during dinner time), but that is part of the Korean cultural experience.

The meat is cooked over coals, and the side dishes are adequate. If you’re in the mood for some steak, this is the place to visit.

Chicken Curry Goon – Hongdae

The establishment appears to be your typical fried chicken tavern, with a menu of cocktails and fried dishes that will make your arteries cry for mercy. There’s also a curry rice lunch special. Even if you choose one of the simpler options, you will get loads of chicken and fries. There is more than enough to feed two individuals.

The fried chicken has a curry seasoning that gives it a more robust flavor than ordinary fried chicken. In terms of textures, this is without a doubt one of the best plain fried chickens you’ll ever have, and it tastes so natural without being overly processed.

Choigozip Hongdae Korean BBQ

Monday through Friday, there are lunch specials available here. There is also an English menu, which is quite useful for tourists. Their meat is well-cooked and tender, which is a definite plus. They serve various side dishes, including lettuce, cheese, kimchi, shredded cabbage, and others. 2 people can dine for approximately KRW 30,000.

Tuk Tuk Noodle Thai

Tuk Tuk Noodle Thai is all about authenticity, a collaborative effort between a local Korean owner and a native Thai chef to bring the true flavors of Thailand to Korea, making it one of the best restaurants in Sinchon. The elements that comprise a classic Thai meal — the colors, textures, aromas, flavors, and ambiance — are present from beginning to end.

Thai sausages or spicy and sour ‘larb moo’ – stir-fried minced pork – are great ways to experience Thailand’s authentic flavor and aroma.

This place is on the Michelin Guide and isn’t too expensive, so it’s definitely worth a visit!

 L’impasse81

The world of charcuterie is still relatively unknown in Korea, so the fact that a restaurant like L’Impasse 81 prepares its own prepared pork items à la Française from scratch is cause for celebration. This quaint French dining bar, like the meal it serves, is homey and comforting.

Try their distinctive sausages, such as boudins and merguez, as well as their pâtés and rillettes, which are particularly difficult to get in Seoul and can be enjoyed at moderate costs.

This restaurant is also on the Michelin guide list, which is great news for foodies!
