South Korea has many wonders; one such mindblowing attraction is the Banpo Bridge in Seoul. This major bridge is located in downtown Seoul over the Han River, which connects the Yongsan and Seocho districts. It is the first double-deck bridge constructed in South Korea and sits atop Jamsu Bridge, forming the upper half of the structure. The Jamsu Bridge is constructed in such a way that it is made to sink as the river’s water level rises during times of heavy rain since the lower deck is so close to the water’s edge. The bridge was constructed in 1982 as a girder bridge, but it is a famous bridge all over South Korea and the world.
What to See?
The main attraction of this bridge alone is that it is a Two-tiered traffic bridge with a magnificent and heavily built 380-jet water fountain (반포대교 달빛무지개분수) that is colorfully illuminated at night.
This beautiful fountain is named Moonlight Rainbow Fountain. The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain, which has approximately 10,000 LED nozzles running down both sides of its 1,140m length and breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest bridge fountain, shoots 190 tons of water every minute.
Former mayor of Seoul Oh Se-hoon claimed that the installation of the fountain on the Banpo Bridge would increase the city’s aesthetic appeal, and he opened it in September 2009. The bridge includes 380 nozzles and 38 water pumps on either side that can spray water 43 meters horizontally and 190 tons per minute from the river 20 meters below the deck. The water is continuously recycled and pumped from the river itself.
Visitors swarm the area to take in the falling and dancing water, music, and lighting. Experiences with the rainbow fountain concept are worthwhile. It should be noted that this is the largest fountain bridge in the entire world. It is understandable why the location is so well-known among both tourists and residents. The fountain displays a hundred various configurations throughout the day that are designed to resemble waving willow branches and willow leaves. When the sun sets, 200 lights illuminate the fountain, which dances and emits water jets in a kaleidoscope of colors while playing music. From April through October, the Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain runs four to six times every day for a total of 20 minutes. The hours might vary by day and season. Additionally, the park has picnic spots, an ecological observation station, and an outdoor stage.
How to reach?
The easiest way to make it to the bridge is through the Seoul subway, and you have to walk another 400mts and cross a road to reach the bridge.

There are a few places that you can visit nearby the Banpo Bridge. The Han River Park is an ideal option to spend a day with your family or take your kids to roam around on a good evening. Next is the Apgujeong Graffiti Tunnel, and as the name says, the whole tunnel is filled with graffiti art, making your eyes pop and a good place for a photoshoot.
