Bibimbap is one of those first dishes that everyone gets to know and asks for in Korea. Read on ahead to find out where you can get best bibimbap in Seoul!

There is something about Korean dishes which attracts our rights through the screen of the K-drama series. Locals and visitors appreciate ancient traditional dishes in Korea. Bibimbap comes from the word bibim, a verb, which means mixing of rice (burned rice found in the bottom of the dish mixed with cooked) and bap, a noun, refers to rice. Therefore bibimbap is basically warm white rice topped with various other elements like kimchi, namul (seasoned vegetable), doenjang (fermented soybean paste) or gochujang (chili paper paste). Some elements of non-veg are also included, like a fried egg, sliced (can be meat or pork), all are stirred together before eating the delicious mouth-watering dish. Bibimbap is one of those first dishes that everyone gets to know and asks for in Korea. It is quite famous and even popularized globally through Korean dramas, shows, social media, etc.

Though Bibimbap originated from Jeonju, you don’t have to go down there to get the authentic bibimbap. You can get the best experience of Bibimbap in the heart of Seoul. To help you with this, we have listed the best five best Bibimbap restaurants in Seoul.

Gogung

This restaurant is located in Myeongdong is often considered to be the best place where one can find Bibimbap in the entire Seoul. Here Bibimbap is made in the traditional method by old Koreans themselves. This Bibimbap style mimicks the same version as it was served to the kings during the Joseon Dynasty. The infrastructure of the restaurant itself mixes traditional and modern styles.

They serve two types of bibimbap here, Jeonju Bibimbap and Dolsot Bibimbap. The Jeonju Bibimbap is served cold, while Dolsot bibimbap is served in steaming hot form. It is usually served in a black hot stove pot; each variety of Bibimbap tastes differently with few changes in the additional ingredients while the basic ingredients remain constant.

Jeonju Jungang Hoekwan

The second Bibimbap restaurant is also located in Myeongdong. It is quite old and was founded nearly fifty years ago. This restaurant also serves Bibimbap both in Jeonju-style and Dolsot-style. It is cooked with beef broth and flavored soybean paste in a pagodite pot, and it is cooked until it gets scorched and then topped off with various sauteed vegetables. However, Jeonju Jungang Hoekwan is not as big as Gogung. Located in a small alleyway, geared mainly towards tourists.

Mokmyeoksanbang

If you are fond of traditionalism and find comfort in conventional environments, you will like this restaurant. This restaurant adds more tradition to your eating style, and if you want to experience Bibimbap like the ancient monarch, this is your destination. Located in Namsan, Mokmyeoksanbang is designed in Hanok style (old Korean housing style), the vibrant, beautiful ambiance of antiquated Korean tradition. The highlight of these restaurants is that you will find a variety of different Bibimbap to choose from. One peculiar aspect of the bibimbap dishes served here is that the rice and the meat come on a separate plate.

Walkerhill Ondal

Normally you would buy Bibimbap from luxury restaurants, but that wouldn’t give you the actual essence of Korean Cuisine. Ondal Restaurant at Walkerhill Hotel is one of the few restaurants that specialize in Korean Food. The best feature of this restaurant is that it provides the highest quality ingredients, organic vegetables, and it provides for a mix of modern and traditional dishes. The price might seem a bit high, but the quality I used accordingly. You can also enjoy luxury bibimbap meals along with the fantastic view of the Han River.

Sae Byeok Jib

Sae Byeok Jib is the best restaurant to take a trip to if you are on the southern side of the Han River. Although it is not specialized in making Bibimbap, their popular dish and what makes them unique is the Yukhoe Bibimbap or raw beef bibimbap. It is a must-try if you ever happen to visit. If you haven’t tasted raw beef ever, this dish will make your first experience worthwhile. The most amazing part is that the price of this dish here is very affordable. Sae Byeok Jib is also known for its pricy and delicious galbi.
