Paju, a literary haven nestled just 22 miles northwest of Seoul, is a must-visit for book lovers. Established in 1998, Paju is a bustling hub of creativity and culture. This architectural marvel houses the awe-inspiring Forest of Wisdom, a vast library filled with tens of thousands of books. This library is housed in the five-storey Asia Publication Culture and Information Centre. With towering bookshelves lining the walls, this library offers a serene and inspiring atmosphere for readers of all ages. Beyond the library, the center also preserves historical writings and showcases traditional typographic techniques, providing a glimpse into the rich history of Korean literature.

And Book City Letterpress Museum

Adjacent to the main building lies the Book City Letterpress Museum, a treasure trove of printing history. The museum houses an impressive collection of 35 million metal character blocks and other traditional printing equipment.

The center’s annual fall book festival attracts local writers, artists, and book enthusiasts, creating a vibrant literary community.

For families with children, a visit to the Pinocchio Museum is a must. This enchanting space is dedicated to children’s literature and fairy tales, sparking young imaginations.

The Freedom Bridge and Imjingang Rail Bridge stand as stark reminders of the past, while the Memorial Hall pays tribute to the sacrifices made. 

How to Get to Paju Book City?

To reach Paju from Incheon International Airport, follow these steps:

  1. Airport Railroad Express (AREX): Take the AREX to Seoul Station.
  2. Subway Transfer: Transfer to Line 4 (Blue Line) and alight at Danggogae Station.
  3. Line 3 Transfer: Switch to Line 3 (Orange Line) and get off at Jichuk Station.
  4. Gyeongui-Jungang Line: Board the Gyeongui-Jungang Line and get off at Paju Station.

Alternatively:

  • Bus: Take a bus from Seoul Central City Bus Terminal or Express Bus Terminal to Paju.
  • Taxi: Hail a taxi from Seoul to Paju for a more direct route.

Once you reach Paju, you can use local buses or taxis to explore the various attractions within the city.
